My name is Yuri. I am a Russian Canadian and have recently moved to live in Tampere, Finland.
In 1994, I graduated from Moscow Linguistic University and then worked mainly as a translator, thought I have also tried several other professions.
In 1998, after losing work and savings due to an economic crisis in Russia, I decided to emigrate.
First I stayed in Sweden and cared for the handicapped. The job had nothing to do with my previous background, but I was fond of practising Swedish and living in that wonderful country.
It was not possible to settle down in Sweden, so I returned to Russia and two years later immigrated to Canada.
I lived in Québec City, which is the capital of the French-speaking Québec province. There I learned French and worked as a technical translator.
In general, life in Québec was good, but not very interesting. I am European-minded: I'm fond of cultures and nature. I dislike overconsumption and the car-driving life style, which are so characteristic of North America. Besides, there I couldn’t use my favourite language - Swedish.
In 2005 I visited Tampere and two years later, after getting the Canadian citizenship, I moved to Finland as a student.
Now I am studying Finnish (plus a few other languages) and looking for a job.
My interests centre on languages, cultures, politics and environment. You can learn more details about my personality and hobbies.
I am not married and would like to find a girlfriend. Please do not hesitate to write.
